PSE Certificate

The PSE Mark Scheme requires certification of 453 electrical/electronic devices and components in accordance with Japan’s DENAN Law. PSE-certified products are divided into two categories: covered products and non-covered products. Covered Products (SP, Category A) – DC power supplies (AC adapters, LED drivers), totaling 115 products. Non-covered Products (NSP, Category B) – 338 products.

All products must undergo product certification and factory inspection by a CAB (Certification Accreditation Body) recognized by METI. Factory inspections are conducted based on the factory and product category. The validity of the certificate varies between 3 and 7 years depending on the product category.

Category A includes 115 mandatory items such as external power supplies.

Products classified as Category A must apply for “Diamond PSE” and the certificate must be issued by an authorized certification body.

  1. Regulation Article 1: Based on Japan’s local testing law harmonized with IEC standards
  2. Regulation Article 2: Based on tests conducted in accordance with CB or IEC standards
  3. Category B includes 338 mandatory items, such as audio/video products. Products classified as Category B must apply for “Circle PSE.” Registration is conducted through officially registered qualified certification bodies or the manufacturer via the official website.
  4. Products outside the scope of Category A and Category B may be considered valid for the Japan S-Mark. The Japan S-Mark is a voluntary safety logo, and products of customers who choose to apply for the S-Mark will be tested in accordance with the Japan DENAN Act or IEC standards, thereby enhancing the market competitiveness of accredited products.
