What is UL Certification?

UL Certification is a type of certification issued by a safety testing and certification organization based on Delaware laws and UL Tests, which has been conducting product testing and conformity assessment with consideration for public safety since 1894. Certification is not carried out by the US government, but is performed independently in each state.

What is UL?

It stands for “Underwriters Laboratories.” It is an independent organization that conducts evaluations related to product testing in accordance with quality management systems and product safety standards. UL is headquartered in Chicago, USA. It currently operates 67 laboratories in 110 countries.

UL Certification Stages

  • Regulations and standards related to the product are determined.
  • Test procedures related to the product are prepared.
  • Test equipment is provided for tests to be performed at the production site, if any.
  • UL Standard procedures are added to the quality management system documentation.
  • Factory Production Control is integrated into the existing system.
  • The technical file for the product is prepared in accordance with the relevant requirements.
  • Labels to be used on the product are prepared.
  • If the product to be tested is small in volume, it is shipped to the UL laboratory; otherwise, it is tested on-site.
  • If the product passes the tests successfully, a factory visit and Factory Production Control are conducted.
  • If the entire process is completed fully and appropriately, the company is eligible to obtain the UL Certificate for the product.
