What is Homologation?
The procedures carried out to certify that the products of manufacturers of motor vehicles and trailers, agricultural and forestry tractors, motorcycles, and mopeds comply with legal directives are defined as “homologation.” This process is completed through the cooperation of the manufacturer, technical service (test laboratory), and approved organization. The manufacturer or the manufacturer’s fully authorized representative applies to the Ministry of Industry of the relevant country with the technical file they have prepared, along with the relevant regulations and technical standards. During the application, the company specifies the Technical Service it wishes to work with. Subsequently, the ministry sends a letter to the selected technical service, forwarding the company’s application and the technical file attached. Following successful completion of the tests, the test report, technical file, and cover letter are reviewed by the ministry, which then issues the type approval after completing the necessary examinations.
